Advanced Display of the Year 2009HARRISBURG, Pa. – March 19, 2009 – Tyco Electronics' Touch Panel Systems K.K. (the office of Elo TouchSystems in Japan) announces that its 1900L/2200L Zero-Bezel Touchmonitors with Acoustic Pulse Recognition (APR) touch technology have been awarded the Advanced Display of the Year (ADY) 2009, Display Module Category for their significant contribution to the flat-panel display (FPD) industry.

1900L/2200L Zero-Bezel TouchmonitorsThe 1900L/2200L Zero-Bezel Touchmonitors developed by Tyco Electronics' Elo TouchSystems are the first zero-bezel touchmonitors with a virtually 100-percent useable surface area. Combining state-of-the-art Elo TouchSystems APR touch technology, the zero-bezel design removes the frame, or bezel, of standard monitors to create a seamless glass surface. The slim and elegant dark gray body looks less like computer monitors and is well-suited for sophisticated spaces like boutiques and hotel lobbies. Zero-bezel touchmonitors are as practical as they are beautiful. The easy-to-clean screen surface is resistant to water, dust and grease, making it an excellent choice for use by the public.

"We are honored that our zero-bezel touchmonitors have been given the ADY2009 award. The products have innovative and stylish design, and a full flat surface which utilizes the cutting edge of touch technology. I believe that these beautiful zero-bezel touchmonitors will contribute to society by increasing the demand for user-friendly touchscreen systems, not only for existing applications but for totally new applications which had not used the touch interface before," says Taketoshi Oitani, senior manager of product management, Touch Panel Systems.

About APR Technology

Acoustic Pulse Recognition (APR) works by recognizing the sound created when the glass is touched at a given position. The APR touchscreen consists of a glass overlay with four piezoelectric transducers. The transducers pick up the acoustic wave generated upon a touch, and convert it to an electric signal. The signal is the digitized by the controller and compared to a prerecorded acoustic profile for every position on the glass.
