Release of MonitorMouse for Windows CE 2.1x version 1.0

March 26, 1999

Elo TouchSystems announces the release of Monitor Mouse for Windows CE 2.1x, version 1.0, compiled for the x86 microprocessor family. (Contact Elo for other microprocessors.) This driver for Elo touchscreens was designed to meet the needs of OEMs and system developers creating touch-based applications under Microsoft popular Windows CE operating system for embedded systems. Developers can now easily integrate touch functionality into their CE platform with either of Elo's industry leading AccuTouch five-wire resistive or IntelliTouch surface wave touchscreens. MonitorMouse for Windows CE is delivered as a developer kit, including touch drivers, calibration utility, application manual, and sample source code for developers creating their own custom UI.

Features and Benefits

MonitorMouse for Windows CE 1.0 has the following features and benefits to the system developer:

  • Simple, robust, fully-functional serial touch interface for both AccuTouch and IntelliTouch touch technologies. Gives the CE developer a solution using the two industry leading touch technologies—AccuTouch five-wire resistive and IntelliTouch surface wave. Compatible with Elo RS-232 controller boards or the AccuTouch chip controller (COACh).
  • Small driver footprint, less than 30K bytes including UI. Provides the developer with a small driver for critical CE applications with limited storage and memory requirements.
  • Elo designed calibration UI. Provides the developer with an existing calibration UI that can be easily called from an application or custom-defined user interface.
  • Detailed application manual and example source code. Provides the developer all the information and flexibility needed to efficiently design the application and interface.

Applications

Windows CE is the Microsoft operating system targeted at embedded application devices and portable computing products, such as handheld computers. Windows CE is a componentized OS—it allows developers to pick only those parts necessary for the specific application. The result is an environment that provides Win32 API programmers with a way to create very small footprint applications and operating systems for loading into ROM. Because of its small size and powerful features, Windows CE is ideal for embedded systems delivering dedicated applications. Examples of these are:

  • Point-of-Sale systems
  • Windows-Based Terminals (client OS)
  • Industrial control systems
  • Dedicated controllers
  • Specialty portable devices (e.g. inventory control, mobile POS, in-car systems)

Availability

MonitorMouse for Windows CE is available now via download from the Elo Web site at www.elotouch.com. It will also be included in future releases of the TouchTools CD-ROM.

Licensing

The licensing of the Windows CE driver is somewhat different than for other Elo drivers, so read this section carefully. The Windows CE Driver is delivered to the customer in a zipped developer kit with a developer license agreement (DLA). The DLA lets the customer develop on one system and create up to thirty prototype systems for product development and testing purposes. Prior to selling systems, however, the customer needs to obtain an OEM license contract for the CE driver. For OEM licenses, contact Elo Software Product Management. The Windows CE driver is licensed for use only with Elo touch products. Any other use requires a separate license.
