BUSSTAT - PC-Bus Controller Hardware Diagnostic

This diagnostic only applies to PC bus controllers that plug into a PC slot. These have been discontinued for several years and are no longer supported.

Get to a DOS Prompt

  • Windows 3.1: Exit Windows
  • Windows 95/98: Shut down and restart in MS-DOS mode
    • Click Start, select Shut Down, then select Shut Down and Restart in MS-DOS mode
  • Windows NT: Disable the driver, reboot and shell to DOS
    • From Control Panel, click Devices
    • Scroll down to MonMouse Driver
    • If not present, close Devices window and click the MS-DOS icon to shell to DOS
    • If present and listed as Started
      • Click the Startup button
      • Click Disabled, then OK
      • Restart the computer

To Run BUSSTAT from the DOS Command Line

  • Change to the directory where BUSSTAT is located
    • DOS and Windows v2.0c drivers: cd \touch
    • Windows 95 v2.01 drivers: cd \elowin95\utils or use the installation diskette or CD\
    • Windows NT v2.0 drivers: cd \elo
    • Windows NT v3.10c drivers: Copy the file from the \elont directory on the hard drive
  • Execute the file (type BUSSTAT <ENTER>)
  • Enter the line number of your controller model from the list
  • (3 for the E281-4035 or E281-4025 IntelliTouch controllers, 4 for the E271-2201 AccuTouch controller).
  • Enter the I/O address for the controller; for the default address (280 hex), hit the ENTER key.
  • For the E281-4035, confirm that only switch 3 is reported as OFF
  • Touch the screen and confirm that data scrolls on the display

Possible Problems Indicated by BUSSTAT

E271-2201 AccuTouch PC-Bus Controller

  • Problem: Controller not detected (BUSSTAT will not run)
    • Possible cause: The controller is not installed in the computer
    • Possible cause: The controller jumpers are not set for the address specified in BUSSTAT
  • Problem: Constant, rapid data scrolls on display with no touch
    • Possible cause: Clamped bezel or damaged screen.
      • The front bezel of the monitor may be clamped down on the active area of the touchscreen, which acts as a constant touch (this should not happen with genuine Elo TouchSystems monitors).
        • You should be able to see the edge of the plastic cover sheet, and it should be visible within the display area; make sure that the cover sheet does not extend under the front bezel and that the bezel is not contacting the cover sheet. If there is contact, the CRT will have to be moved back away from the bezel.
    • The touchscreen itself may have a damaged spot. Examine the cover sheet for picks, dents or other damage.
  • Disconnect the touchscreen cable from the controller while BUSSTAT is scrolling the data.
    • If data stops scrolling, the screen is definitely damaged or the bezel is causing a constant touch.

E281-4035 IntelliTouch PC-Bus Controller

  • Problem: Constant, rapid data scrolls on display with no touch
    • Possible cause: The controller is not installed in the computer
    • Possible cause: The controller jumpers are not set for the address specified in BUSSTAT
    • Possible cause: Another device is set for the same I/O address as the controller (address conflict)
  • Problem: No data when screen is touched
    • Possible cause: There may be an IRQ conflict with another device. Try changing the IRQ jumper on the controller.
    • Possible cause: Touch component failure; change components if possible.

If BUSSTAT does not work properly, correct the problem.
